Technologies

Microsoft Access, Microsoft Outlook, VB.NET

Project Brief

Dalrymple Bay Infrastructure Management engaged Geckodb to redevelop their legacy in-house Microsoft Access application which managed construction projects for their export terminal near Mackay, Queensland, Australia. The new application needed to be intuitive, efficient, and streamline existing processes.

Developed Solution

Working closely with DBI staff, Geckodb developed a solution consisting of a new Microsoft Access database with an overhauled user interface to manage all aspects of their construction projects. The application utilises neat, logical forms for data entry, and formatted reporting to cleanly present summarised data. Detailed, stylised documents can also be generated at the press of a button for submission to their clients either electronically, or physically.

One of many critical aspects defined within their scope was a need to effectively keep track of the numerous incoming, and outgoing emails relating to individual contracts. The solution was to develop a Microsoft Outlook add-in using Visual Studio, and the .Net framework. The add-in has subsections for incoming and outgoing emails, and with minimal user interaction, scrapes data from an email to generate a record in the contract management database completing key fields, and saving a full copy of the email file which can be accessed by any user of the application.
